When most people walk into Mum's Flowers they say: "I would love to be a florist..it must be so relaxing!" We usually look at each other with a slight giggle because we know to truth to be quite the opposite. Our typical day consists of unboxing endless shipments of flowers, making a mess, sweeping, cleaning buckets and starting all over the next week. But...every now and then we get to experience the magic of what being a florist is really like. A day like Wednesday, September 6th at Bibler Gardens.
Bibler Gardens is located west of Kalispell with an amazing view that overlooks the Flathead Valley, Swan Mountains and Glacier National Park. What was started in 1979 by Sam Bibler is still maintained to this day. It is sort of Secret Garden meets Beauty and the Beast’s castle. As you drive up the windy road, you are met with a large iron gate that invites you in. Walking through the gardens is an enchanting experience with beauty around each corner. You are greeted with beautiful beds of zinnia, cosmos, dahlias and garden roses - not to mention the local tabby or beautiful swans!
We owe this amazing experience to Kallai and her Fiance Chris who invited us to the gardens to cut flowers for their wedding day. While cutting from Bibler is usually not allowed, Chris who works at the gardens gave us full range to cut whatever we wanted. Basically a florist’s dream! There is something so satisfying about connecting the source and handpicking blooms right where they are grown. It was so refreshing for us to get out of the shop and away from orders lists and deadlines. We could have stayed all day!
Thank you so much to Kallai and Chris for this amazing opportunity. We are looking forward to growing our relationship with Bibler Gardens in the years to come. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend escaping the everyday hustle to book a tour! They offer tours twice annually (Spring and Summer) and all proceeds are donated to fund scholarships at Flathead Valley Community College.
